Wow – what an inspiring, historic turnout of protestors across the globe yesterday! London, alone, had close to 100,000 protestors in opposition to Donald Trump’s presidency, which included London mayor Sadiq Khan.

Happy 2017!

Hello and happy 2017!

I’ve recently returned from a trip back to the United Kingdom — our last trip back was in 2013 — and have much to share about our travels. We had a fabulous visit, spending nearly three weeks seeing family and friends in the U.K. and France — with stops in London, Birmingham, Bedfordshire, Colchester and Paris. It was quite a whirlwind trip, but a fun mix of places we were familiar with and new spots we hadn’t been before.

I’ll share more in the coming weeks but wanted to just wish everyone a happy new year and hope that you had a wonderful winter break!

Here are a few shots from our flight over to London on Virgin Atlantic – we traveled economy this time (at about $800 per ticket before Christmas!) — and there were some new features, including purple lighted cabins, no more window shades (but the option to darken your window with a button) and electronic chargers! And check out our clear view of London from the sky!

Overheard from the Posh Mums of North London

In case you were ever wondering what you were missing by NOT being a posh mum in North London’s borough of Highgate, there is a Twitter account, @HighgateMums, that pulls the lid off of the conversation amongst the ladies who brunch.

Here are just a few gems:

Highgate Mums

* “Sweetheart, I don’t blame the Art teacher for scolding you. This piece is devastatingly lacklustre.”
* “My girl’s in the lowest tier, but I’m convinced she’s being used to be an aspirational focus for her less-abled classmates.”
* “Darling, don’t scrape your chair. It makes your presence over-known.”
* “School hours are designed for the convenience of the teachers and pupils and frankly nobody else. Nobody else AT ALL.”
* “Her first words were ‘shoes’ and ‘brioche’.”
* “I know she’s mine, but she’s an appalling painter. Her use of greens is one of the few saving graces.”

SMH. Amazing.

London when it’s completely empty

Ever wonder what London would look like if it were completely empty?

Well, wonder no more! Freelance photographer Genaro Bardy has put together a series of photos, captured when London was completely deserted (namely Christmas Day!).

Three Stags in South London have been hosting a “piss poll” of the top three Republican candidates – Donald Drumpf), Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio – in the men’s room. (Ladies, they also offer an opportunity to vote at @thethreestags). Votes are scheduled to be tallied today …

New London tube map for walkers

London Tube walking map
Transport for London has just unveiled its new London Tube map, which shows how long it takes to walk to stations (so you can finally make an educated decision on whether it IS faster to walk versus take the Tube.) As a side note, it’s been my experience that it’s ALWAYS faster to walk when you’re up against the Circle Line, but that is neither here nor there …

Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park

Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is one of Time Out Magazine’s 101 places to visit in London with kids.

It’s been awhile since we’ve been back to London, but when we do, I’m bringing Time Out Magazine’s list of 101 free activities to do with kids in London.

When Nicky married James

Lest anyone think for even a second that I’m somehow a fan of Nicky Hilton, let me start this blog post by saying no. no. no.

But when she married Brit’s James Rothschild in London this weekend… well, I had to at least look at the photos, right? From an Anglo-American perspective? You’re curious, too?

Here are some of the photos …

Happy July

Well, I apologize for the dormancy of the blog these past weeks. It’s been a whirlwind of activity in June. Let’s see … the kids got out of school, I had a birthday, our French friend’s teenage daughter came to stay with us for three weeks to learn English and experience a slice of Murica, we took a vacation in San Diego … whirlwind, I tell you.

But I’ve compiled my top 5 bits that I would have blogged had I eked out a little more time to do so:

1. Happy 65th birthday, NHS!

King's Cross, Wimbledon

Londoners could grab a deck chair to watch Wimbledon in Cubitt Square, King’s Cross.

2. Princess Charlotte’s christening. And more importantly, comedic riffs on Prince George’s outfit.

3. This transformation of Kings Cross in celebration of Wimbledon.

4. The U.S. Women’s World Cup win!

5. Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, cursing the photographer, during the 75th anniversary event commemorating the Battle of Britain.

You sound like you’re from London …

I quite like this. My Brit-speak is getting rusty so always good to get a little refresher!
