Happy July

Well, I apologize for the dormancy of the blog these past weeks. It’s been a whirlwind of activity in June. Let’s see … the kids got out of school, I had a birthday, our French friend’s teenage daughter came to stay with us for three weeks to learn English and experience a slice of Murica, we took a vacation in San Diego … whirlwind, I tell you.

But I’ve compiled my top 5 bits that I would have blogged had I eked out a little more time to do so:

1. Happy 65th birthday, NHS!

King's Cross, Wimbledon

Londoners could grab a deck chair to watch Wimbledon in Cubitt Square, King’s Cross.

2. Princess Charlotte’s christening. And more importantly, comedic riffs on Prince George’s outfit.

3. This transformation of Kings Cross in celebration of Wimbledon.

4. The U.S. Women’s World Cup win!

5. Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, cursing the photographer, during the 75th anniversary event commemorating the Battle of Britain.

Sacramento: A football town

Sacramento Republic FC wins USL PRO championship

This weekend was pretty monumental for our town of Sacramento — our team Sacramento Republic FC (yep, FC stands for Football Club) won the United Soccer League (USL) professional championship in its first season. We went to the game and witnessed the big win in person.

In one year, I’ve seen our town evolve into a truly spirited soccer (or I should say football) town and it’s exciting! The team has managed to energize our town and bring pride back to our city. I never was a big football fan when I lived in the U.K., but now that I’ve started watching the games, I finally get why it’s the world’s game.

I’m probably preaching to the choir here, but if a sportsphobe like me can change, well, anything is possible! And I have no doubt that the best is yet to come for Sacramento.

Will Smith’s London visit

Will Smith and his son Jaden were in London last weekend to promote their new movie “After Earth.” Some highlights from their visit:

Graham Norton interviewed them, but the best part was their impromptu performance of the theme song from “Fresh Prince of Bel Air” with DJ Jazzy Jeff! (Also, love Bradley Cooper and Heather Graham rocking out on the couch with them!)
