The cronut spawns in London

The new trend for cross-breeding pastries has reached London. From the Townie (a brownie-slash-tart) to the Dosant (half doughnut, half croissant) and the Duffin (a doughnut/muffin fusion), these hybrid sweets are going down a treat.
And so begins this utterly delightful and mouthwatering read on BBC.co.uk. Have you tried any of these? They’ve arrived in the U.K. and sound amazing (I do have a sweet tooth!)
British People’s 13 Greatest Fears
A new YouGov survey has revealed the 13 things that the British public fear the most, with fear of heights, fear of snakes and fear of public speaking in the top 3. Read the full list.
But I particularly like Huffington Post’s comedic take of this. “That someone will push in front of us in a queue” ranked #1, with “That someone will go in for a second kiss on the other cheek” at #2 and “That Stephen Fry may be wrong about something” at #3. Read their full list.
Is your greatest fear on the list?
Introducing Flormite
This came up in my Facebook feed this morning:
Introducing Flormite, the perfect Flora and Marmite pairing in 1 tub. Available in light, medium or dark – how strong will you go?
Aw, I know this was an April Fools joke, but I really wish it wasn’t…
The pitfalls of marrying an American woman/British man
In light of the Gwyneth and Chris Martin split, the Daily Telegraph has taken it upon itself to do some deep digging into the British man/American woman match, which I touched on last week. I absolutely ate it up!
Here’s journalist Sally Peck’s piece, “Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin split: The pitfalls of marrying a British man.”
And here’s writer/comedian/British husband Tom Cowell’s piece, “Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin split: The pitfalls of marrying an American woman.”
Woo! Enjoy 🙂
Dan Croll and “Home”
On “All Things Considered” yesterday, NPR featured British singer-songwriter Dan Croll, a native Stoke-on-Trent resident who has since made himself home in Liverpool. After returning home to see his family in Stoke-on-Trent, he wrote this lovely song “Home,” which just oozes comfy, warm loveliness.
Listen to the full story and watch the full video for “Home.”
A radical tea towel
Brits love their tea towels. I’ve blogged about it before.
But now, a British company has given tea towels the radical treatment, featuring tea towels for feminists, vegetarians, liberals and activists. The Radical Tea Towel Company produces tea towels made with Panama cotton, or 100% premium cotton. They will deliver by first class post in the U.K. and by airmail to the rest of the world.
Here are just a few examples!
Happy Pancake Day!
Happy Pancake Day! Are you having pancakes c’est soir?
I just wanted to share this amazing “Dr. Who” TARDIS pancake that I found on Griddle Me This, a Tumblr site of pancake art!
It’s enough to inspire me to put aside that Trader Joe’s pancake mix and go rogue with some pancake designs (but I suspect the execution will be shoddy …). Happy pancake making!
Steepster
I’ve stumbled upon a monthly tea delivery service called Steepster. Have you tried Steepster?
They provide a collection of five premium, loose-leaf teas from around the world each month (enough for 30 cups of tea). The shipment also includes tasting notes and expert brewing instructions to make the perfect cup of tea.
It’s normally $24.95/month but Living Social is doing a Steepster deal for $13, if you purchase in the next 17 days!
4.1 earthquake in Devon?!
The British Geological Survey (BGS) is reporting that an earthquake measuring 4.1 hit Devon at 1:21 p.m. BST today.
Tremors were felt in areas including Dartmoor, Bristol, Taunton, Swansea, Llanelli, Barnstable, Gloucester and South Molton.
What in the world is going on? I’m still trying to get over Devon images like this. Waves hitting our favorite quiet seaside Devon town of Teignmouth:
And the flooding in Dawlish:
* Sigh *
