“Unfinished Song”

Last night, we went to see “Before Midnight” with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy.

We’ve been watching these movies since “Before Sunset” was released back in 1995 and seeing the two of them again on the big screen was like visiting old friends. If you haven’t seen this series of films, I highly recommend them!

Anyway, I digress. I went in with the expectation of being tortured through 20 minutes of adverts and trailers before the movie. Instead, I was actually delighted by the pre-show run up to the movie. Particularly this one – “Unfinished Song,” with Terence Stamp, Vanessa Redgrave and Gemma Arterton.

2 British films to watch for

I love a good movie trailer, but I have to say that I’m growing irritated by the extended time that commercials and trailers are taking up these days. Twenty minutes? Seriously? Are you with me?

But sometimes, it is great to spot something you’d actually like to see!

Last weekend, we went to the movies and saw “Frances Ha.” along with a couple of British films that I would love to see …

First up, “About Time” written by Richard Curtis of “Love Actually” and “Notting Hill” fame. It’s due out Nov. 8 in the U.S.

Secondly, Simon Pegg stars in “The World’s End,” which looks as good as “Shawn of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz.” It’s due out Aug. 23 in the U.S.

Will Smith’s London visit

Will Smith and his son Jaden were in London last weekend to promote their new movie “After Earth.” Some highlights from their visit:

Graham Norton interviewed them, but the best part was their impromptu performance of the theme song from “Fresh Prince of Bel Air” with DJ Jazzy Jeff! (Also, love Bradley Cooper and Heather Graham rocking out on the couch with them!)

Helen Mirren reprises her royal role in “The Audience”

If you loved Helen Mirren in “The Queen,” you will adore her in “The Audience,” which premieres at the National Theatre in London on June 15.

Paris? Oui!

Before Sunset

So, we’ve added a few days in beautiful Paris to our upcoming European holiday!

We’ve been to Paris a couple of times (most notably, our honeymoon! Miel du lune!) I’m so looking forward to some amazing sights and even more amazing eats!

We’re getting into the French state of mind by watching a lot of Julie Delpy movies – especially Before Sunset, one of my all-time favorites.

(Check out the “Before Sunset” map of Paris! I will absolutely be adding some of these to our itinerary!)

Do you have a favorite spot in Paris? Any must-sees? I’m all ears!

Film review: “The Five-Year Engagement”

The Five-Year Engagement

Last weekend, I finally watched “The Five-Year Engagement” (thank you, HBO, for putting it On Demand!). Have you seen it?

Jason Segel was his usual amazing self (hello, how great was “I Love You, Man”?!). Emily Blunt was adorable and so likeable. Together, they were a great Brit/American couple – flawed, yes, but also quirky and believable and real. 🙂

Mila Kunis, Nando’s chicken and Blue Moon

BBC Radio One’s Chris Stark had the nerve-wracking opportunity to interview Mila Kunis about “Oz The Great and Powerful” and ends up veering off into a conversation about Baywatch, Nando’s chicken, jagerbombs and dropping trou at weddings. Needless to say, it ends up being one of her favorite interviews of the day.

50 years of Bond

My son got his first exposure to James Bond on Sunday with the 007 video montage that was shown at the Oscars. Questionably inappropriate material for a 5-year-old? Uh, yeah. But a piece of British culture that my husband eagerly wanted to pass down.

I couldn’t find said video montage online, but found this excellent look at the past 50 years of Bond.

Who’s your favorite James Bond? I have to say Daniel Craig is mine.

Oscar Night

Shirley Bassey

Did you watch the Oscars last night?

*SPOILERS*

Some of my favorite bits: Adele, the cast of “Les Miserables” performing “One More Day,” Ang Lee and Quentin Tarantino’s wins, Barbra Streisand’s “Memories” and  Argo clenching best picture. But best moment of the night goes to Dame Shirley Bassey. Utterly breathtaking at the age of 76. She looked and sounded beautiful! What an inspiring performance!

And happy 50th birthday to the James Bond franchise!
