50 years of Bond

My son got his first exposure to James Bond on Sunday with the 007 video montage that was shown at the Oscars. Questionably inappropriate material for a 5-year-old? Uh, yeah. But a piece of British culture that my husband eagerly wanted to pass down.

I couldn’t find said video montage online, but found this excellent look at the past 50 years of Bond.

Who’s your favorite James Bond? I have to say Daniel Craig is mine.

Oscar Night

Shirley Bassey

Welsh singer Shirley Bassey at last night’s Oscars

Did you watch the Oscars last night?

*SPOILERS*

Some of my favorite bits: Adele, the cast of “Les Miserables” performing “One More Day,” Ang Lee and Quentin Tarantino’s wins, Barbra Streisand’s “Memories” and  Argo clenching best picture. But best moment of the night goes to Dame Shirley Bassey. Utterly breathtaking at the age of 76. She looked and sounded beautiful! What an inspiring performance!

And happy 50th birthday to the James Bond franchise!

Skyfall

I have just two words for you: James Bond.

At last, Skyfall opens in theaters today! It feels like such a long time since we’ve gone to the movies, but this one is at the top of our list! If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, enjoy!

If you’ve already seen the movie (UK peeps!), what did you think? Worth the wait?

OPI’s SkyFall collection

I seriously am a sucker for these types of movie tie-in promotions. I realize it’s sheer marketing, but can’t help myself. Behold the new OPI nail polish line inspired by the new James Bond “SkyFall” film.

Why call it “red,” when you can call it “Die Another Day”? Am I right? Personally, I’m partial to the deep green silverness of “Live and Let Die.” What do you think?

Connery plays Queen in Bond sketch

Did you see the madcap skydiving scene with Daniel Craig (as James Bond) and the Queen (as herself!) in last Friday’s opening Olympic ceremony?

Well, I loved the concept – and the fact that the Queen was happy to play along! Of course, it occurred to me that the Queen didn’t throw herself out of the plane and parachute into Olympic Park and that they did employ a stunt double. But for some reason, I wasn’t even thinking that it would be a guy in the fascinator and pearls, nor would I have imagined that he would have the last name of Connery (yes, as in Sean Connery!). Read more about him!

Thanks to my friend and fellow blogger Layla of TheSmudge.com, who gave me this story tip.  Here’s her take on it!
