John Oliver’s take on Brexit vote

If you aren’t sure what today’s Brexit vote in the United Kingdom is all about, HBO’s funnyman John Oliver sheds some light …

Here’s hoping cooler minds prevail today.

Paid family leave

I hope you all had a great Mother’s Day (even the UK mums who celebrated on an entirely different day in March!)

I loved and had to share this scathing piece that John Oliver did on “Last Week Tonight” about Mother’s Day and paid family leave in the U.S. America’s got to step it up.

Busy as a bee

Ah, it’s been one of those crazy busy weeks at work and on the home front, juggling and trying to stay afloat (and mixing metaphors in the process!).

Oh yeah, and I’ve discovered “True Detective,” and have been a veritable junkie, huffing episode after episode.

I’m reminded today that I may need to employ the Sherlock method of memory to keep my checklists in check and my to-dos done. Happy Tuesday!

Allison Williams as Kate Middleton

Oh, to be Allison Williams. Not only does she have stunning good looks (even with an eyepatch), a college degree from Yale University, a dad as awesome as Brian Williams, a hot brother, a very nice singing voice and a prime role as Marnie in the hottest HBO show “Girls.” But on top of all of that, she also bears a striking resemblance to Kate Middleton.

If you didn’t catch her on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” this week, check out her skit as Kate Middleton (with Jimmy as Prince William).

HBO’s Girls

Despite our best intentions of unbundling our lives from the evils of Comcast, we have signed up for HBO.

I’m not proud of it. But I will say that the HBO programming is amazing.

Have you seen “Girls”? I was reluctant – after all of the hype. How great could it really be? Well, totes amaze. Last week’s episode entitled “Vagina Panic” had me LOL-ing and cringing at the same time.

I should add that while I love the characters of Hannah and Marnie most of all, I think it’s great that they’ve included a Brit in the mix in the form of Jessa – beautiful, distant and way too cool for her own good. Every show needs one of those.

And even if you have boycotted Comcast, you can watch the full first episode of “Girls,” thanks to the good people at YouTube.

The problem with 6’7″

Did you catch Stephen Merchant last week on “The Daily Show”?

I’ve always thought he was hilarious from his days writing for the UK version of “The Office” and “Extras” as well as his podcast with Ricky Gervais. He has a new project with Ricky Gervais called “Life’s Too Short,” which just started airing in the U.S. on HBO.

Check out his off-the-cuff interview with Jon Stewart, discussing the problem with being 6’7″. I love the back-and-forth and Stephen proves that he can definitely hold his own.
