Another chance for Ricky Gervais
Thank goodness for third chances.
I was happy to read yesterday that Ricky Gervais will be hosting next year’s Golden Globe Awards, despite the mixed reviews (okay, I’m probably being a little too kind) that he received for his last stab at hosting the Golden Globes earlier this year (in which I do believe most of Hollywood wanted to stab him.)
I happen to like his devil-may-care attitude, in the face of frosty A-listers. I’m drawn to the awkwardness. The audible outrage from the audience and yes, even the boos.
He’s a funny guy and “The Office” is living proof of that (both the U.K. and U.S. versions). Let’s hope that he knocks it out of the park next time. I’ll be watching.
Like Crazy
Have you seen the movie trailers for Like Crazy yet?
I love a good British girl-American guy love story and am like crazy to see it. It’s still in limited release and not playing anywhere near us but I remain hopeful. I already know that I will LOVE this movie like crazy.
Have you seen it? What did you think?
Withnail and I
I first saw Withnail and I my third year of uni (translation: university), while studying abroad in Stirling, Scotland. Released in 1987 about two struggling actors in London in 1969, Withnail and I is one of those movies that never made it big in the US, despite its brilliance.
It remains one of my favorite British films and I share it today simply to urge you to see it, if you haven’t yet. It’s available on instant queue on Netflix.
And while we’re on the topic of lesser-known British movies, do you have any good ones to recommend?
